After the bacon slicing production process was automated and working optimally, there was one more operation Sleegers wanted to tackle: slicing the bacon. Bacon is delivered in frozen pieces that are too large to slice. The outdated method was dangerous and labor-intensive. Time for a Sleegers solution.

How the dangerous work is replaced by the Bacon Splitter

Not long ago, frozen bacon was cut into pieces manually under a bandsaw. Besides the fact that the production speed was limited, it is dangerous work. The sawing makes a lot of noise and had to be done in a cold room. Meat residues accumulate, which increases the risk of bacterial growth.

Cutting frozen meat into several pieces is extremely difficult. High time for innovation! After some puzzling Huub found the solution. This idea was converted into a machine that effortlessly divides the frozen bacon into equal pieces. At high speed and with little cutting loss, the bacon is ready to be sliced.

Splitting at top speed

Per minute, 30 frozen bacon blocks can be split into 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 equal pieces. Even frozen bacon from -15 degrees Celsius is quickly cut into equal pieces. The VI-52 Bacon Splitter was the missing link that made the bacon production process complete, safe and fast. What a huge difference from the starting point! And what a huge difference for bacon producers!

In the next blog I'll describe the cardboard solution for the American and Canadian markets.
